  1.     This accessory converts Calamus fonts into a format that can be
  2. used by the program CyberSculpt, written Tom Hudson.  The method to
  3. produce these 3D letters, takes a shape and extrudes it and then all of
  4. the tools of CyberSculpt and CAD3D can be used to manipulate the
  5. letters.  It will only generate .TMP files, not CAD3D files.  You will
  6. still need CyberSculpt to use this program and CAD3D for final
  7. manipulation.
  8.     The accessory is very easy to use.  The first dialog box asks
  9. about the format of the letters.  CyberSculpt does not use curved lines
  10. but rather uses short line segments to simulate curves.  The length of
  11. these pieces is what is to be decided here.  Try normal and see how it
  12. looks.  If you need more detail, then use fine or extra-fine.  If you
  13. need less, then use coarse or rough.
  14.     Now you enter the name of the font that you wish to use.  It is
  15. important that the font be an "Outline" compatible Calamus font, that
  16. is, one in which each letter is not made up of lots of little pieces,
  17. like serifs or stems.  However, it will work with them.  After the
  18. fonts has been entered, then a phrase, with less than 30 letters, is
  19. entered for the letters that you would like to have generated. 
  20. Finally, the extrude surfaces are made and you can then formulate the
  21. letters.  (If the phrase has more than 30 letters, break it up into two
  22. parts.)
  23.     The ability to only generate the letters in a phrase is a
  24. necessary limitation.  If it were not so, then for a typical alphabet,
  25. there would be over 100 files that would be written, many of which
  26. would not be needed. You do this many times and you could fill up a
  27. hard disk or give you problems with a folder if this amount of files
  28. were quickly generated.  If your phrase has duplicated letters, only
  29. one will have a shape made for it.  
  30.     The files that are written are easily deciphered as to its
  31. contents.  Suppose the font name is BABYTETH.CFN and the phrase is
  32. "The".  Three files would be made.  The names would be BABYTE_T.TMP
  33. which would contain the capital 'T', BABYTELH.TMP which would contain
  34. the lower case 'h'.  The letter 'e' is contained in BABYTELE.TMP.
  35.     Here come the necessary disclaimers.  I am not responsible for any
  36. errors or problems that you might have with this program.  This
  37. includes spelling errors, typos, slight touchups, or gross misconduct. 
  38. The program will work on all ST and TT machines. 
  39.     Why have I written this program and put it into the public domain? 
  40. Am I an altruistic lover of programming?  Am I an individual who wishes
  41. to see the Atari family of computers grow and prosper?  Am I a fool? 
  42. Am I trying to make money?  All of these are true.  I also have about
  43. 200 Calamus fonts that would look lovely in your 3D application.  Use
  44. and abuse this program, and if you like it, send me money.  If you love
  45. it, then buy many more fonts, not only from me but from the other
  46. Calamus font suppliers.
